About Mwanda
Mwanda is a small village located southwest of the Coastal Province of Kenya with a population of over 30,000 people.
Most of the people in the village have no formal education and employment. Majority of the people are mainly subsistent farmers depending on crops and livestock. They do not have employment apart from causal labor on the rural farms.
There is no clean water, no electricity, and no communication facilities like a telephone. Mwanda has a poor road network and no proper medical Institutions. The average number of children in most families is between five and eleven. At the moment single parenthood is a major phenomenon as a result of high spread of HIV/AIDS whose big effect is single parenthood and orphan children.
